The Timeout Drawer - Record of Small Histories
SomeOddPilot recording artists The Timeout Drawer present the finest in knob-laden, device driven space rock. The Chicago trio's debut album Record of Small Histories procures its sound from an orbiting galaxy of warm-blooded analog synths, floating guitars and fluttering acoustic drums. Sparse and intimate vocals complete this eclectic mix of organic/electro vibes and epic storybook-like structures that may bring to mind elements from such acts as The Tear Garden, Tortoise, or the intimate and moody qualities of Low. This album is an absolute must for the careful listener's collection and should sit nicely in the "ear candy" section between Coil and The Legendary Pink Dots (unless this poses some sort of alphabetical problem).
The Timeout Drawer features a fusion of emerging electonic and rock musicians, including Endpoint recording artists Diminish (pop melodies tied up in clanky dub knots) and The Second Man (scientifically designed 3-D electronic music), plus ex-members of the now defunct experimental rock/noise five-piece Facefall. These past and present endeavors have earned seats on Cargo and Endpoint compilations, independent airwaves and press throughout Europe and the US and have provided audiences with hypnotic entertainment in Chicago and the Midwest college circuit since 1992.
